Year 4 (8-9 years old)
Level 1 skills course
This course is open to children year 4 and above. The course consists of two sessions each lasting two hours, usually on consecutive days, with and ideal maximum of 12 children per session. A booklet called Tales of the Road, a highway code for young road users will be issued to the school before the course for each trainee. The course will follow the National Standard Level 1 course. Successful pupils will receive a Level 1 skills certificate and badge.
Cost £15 per pupil.
Years 5, 6, 7, 8 (9-13 years old)
Level 2 Basic road course
The course consists of 5 sessions on consecutive days with a maximum of 24 pupils. Firstly a two hour session on day one is based in the playground followed by four 1 hour 15 minute sessions at local road junctions. A booklet called Tales of the Road a highway code for young road users will be issued to the school before the course for each trainee along with homework. The course will follow the National Standard Level 2 course. Successful pupils will receive Level 1 and Level 2 certificates and badges.
Cost £40 per pupil.
Year 7 and above (11 years old and above)
Level 3 Advanced road course
Any child who has completed the Level 2 course successfully and is in year 7 or above can take the Level 3 course. The course lasts for 3 two hour sessions usually on consecutive days, the maximum instructor/trainee ratio is 1 to 2. Homework must be completed before the course. The course will follow the National Standards Level 3 course but may vary depending upon local roads and traffic. Successful pupils will receive a Level 3 certificate and badge.
